I got let go from my job today. Basically due to stupid decisions for my leader to further her own ambitions, and get all the overtime for herself. Under the guise of her claiming i didn't take initiative and didn't grasp the job, they got rid of me. I had a little trouble, yes, but I'd never had a caretaking job before, and it wasn't what i was used to. I got along with my coworkers and my patients well enough, and only made one mistake, on my second day, which I quickly corrected. The team leader didn't want any new workers in the house, because she didn't want to offer overtime to the newer employees, which she would have to do, per company policy. None of the other staff usually takes the offered overtime, so she usually grabs it up. I mean, this woman will work 40 hours in two days between three jobs, which is ridiculous.
Anyways, time to figure out what I'll do for a job. Ugh. At least now, I'm certified in first aid, CPR, med administration, and proper defense strategies, so it's not a total loss.

I feel you bro.
I see all the time about in the news about how unemployment is going down and jobless claims are falling, but it seems that everyone I know is losing their job for some BS.

Man, I'm sorry dude. That sucks. Best of luck on finding something new.
What sort of maintenance did you do? Is it something you'd be interested in doing more of? I might have a suggestion for you.

Well, that is true. But I think I could get back to my previous job with little trouble. I was there three years and was a favorite employee. I also applied for sales at the Dodge dealer. I've got a ton of copies of my résumé printed out, so I think I'll be OK.

I was once told I was not "proactive" enough. Walking out that door turned out to be a very good thing.

Well, I walked out the door because they fired me, but it was still a good thing.

Sorry to hear this, keep your head up, happens to us all at one time or another. If you enjoyed working with patients there should be other home care agencies you can look into. You can also look into being an EMT. Get a job with an ambulance company while you work on your paramedic cert. then you can either stay with the ambulance company in a higher paid position or look into your local fire department. Best of luck to you, there are many options out there in the healthcare field..

Well, there's another benefit. You now know who not to work for. Next time, fire your boss. It's liberating.
You can tell in the first few weeks/months who's a toxic boss. Manage your career and don't let the paycheck rule. If we all did that, then we could eliminate those bosses and have a more peaceful world *fantasy music plays here*.
Good luck on the hunt. Those are good skills though and much needed in the current market. I would encourage you to also look a bit into IT and high tech, because they are doing a fuckload of work in the care industry (from logistics or validation or operations management) where they need people that have street cred vs. theory.
